Single Origin Spotlight: Colombia Medellín

The Heart of Colombian Coffee

Colombia is one of the most recognized names in coffee and for good reason. The country's geography is almost perfectly designed for growing exceptional beans: high altitudes, rich volcanic soil, a near-equatorial climate, and two distinct harvest seasons that allow for year-round production. But not all Colombian coffee is the same, and the region makes all the difference.

Our Colombia comes from Medellín, the capital of Antioquia a region long considered the heartland of Colombian coffee culture. Grown by smallholder farmers in the mountains surrounding the city, this coffee is a textbook example of what makes Colombian single origins so beloved.

Tasting Notes

Our Colombia is a medium roast with a flavor profile that's both vibrant and approachable:

  • Dried orange — a bright, citrusy top note that lifts the cup
  • Berry — a subtle fruit sweetness that adds depth and complexity
  • Chocolate — a smooth, satisfying finish that rounds everything out

The body is medium, the acidity is lively but balanced, and the overall experience is clean and expressive. It's the kind of coffee that rewards attention but is also easy to love on a busy morning.

Why Antioquia?

The Antioquia department sits in the central Andes, with elevations typically ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 meters above sea level. At these altitudes, coffee cherries develop slowly, building sugars and complexity that lower-altitude coffees simply can't match. The region's "coffee axis" known locally as the Eje Cafetero has been producing world-class coffee for over a century, and Medellín sits at its northern edge.

The farms here are predominantly small family operations, many of them growing the Castillo and Caturra varieties both known for their clean, bright cup profiles and disease resistance in the challenging mountain climate.

How to Brew Colombia Medellín

This coffee is versatile and performs beautifully across a range of methods:

  • Pour-over: The best way to highlight the dried orange and berry notes. Use a medium-fine grind, water at 200°F, and a slow, controlled pour. The clarity of this method lets every layer of flavor shine.
  • Drip: A reliable everyday brew that delivers a consistently satisfying cup with minimal effort.
  • Aeropress: A slightly shorter brew time and higher pressure bring out the chocolate notes more prominently — great for a concentrated, espresso-style shot.
  • Espresso: The bright acidity and fruit notes translate beautifully as a straight shot, and the chocolate finish makes it an excellent base for milk drinks.

Pair It With

The fruit-forward brightness of this Colombia pairs naturally with:

  • Dark chocolate or a chocolate croissant
  • Fresh berries or a berry jam on toast
  • A citrus tart or orange zest dessert
